Some places leave a lasting impression on your heart, and Grandmother Rock is one of them.
Grandmother Rock on Trinidad State Beach in Humboldt County is more than a stunning landmark. According to Tsu-rai legend, she is a patient grandmother who was turned to stone by the gods and now sits overlooking the Pacific, forever waiting for her warrior grandson to return from the sea. Knowing this story gives the landscape an even deeper sense of beauty, history, and reverence.

This painting was inspired by the simple beauty and sweet taste of summer berries. We have a small patch of strawberries in our backyard, and each summer they become part of our days in the simplest, sweetest ways. The grandkids love picking strawberries right from the garden, often eating them as quickly as they find them. Simple pleasures that fond memories are made of.
